It’s almost time. Two more months to go until the premiere of the third season of Game of Thrones. I’m so excited! What should I do? Make my own chain mail? Breed a tiny dragon? Study sorcery and witchcraft? Cool ideas, but not really my style. I think I need to do two… no, maybe three things:
1) Re-read all the books by George R. R. Martin. There are only 4,273 pages to read, so I can probably wait until the end of the month to start, right?
2) Re-watch season 1 of the HBO series. Which I own. On Blu-Ray. Yay for me.
3) Re-watch season 2 of the HBO series. I don’t own it. But I think it’s available On Demand. Which I have. Yay for me, again.
4) Remember to go to work, run the household, and feed everyone.
Okay, four things. You’re so picky.
Like I mentioned in my first post about these books/this show, I got sucked in gradually: watched first season of the show, then read the first book, then read all-the-books-available-in-paperback, then dammit-all-to-hell read the most recent book in hard cover. For which I paid the ginormous sum of $35. Totally unlike me, but I had to know how Martin was going to tie some of the plot threads together. (And they better tie together, or I’m flying down to his house to give him a firm talking to and a copy of Don Maass’ Writing the Breakout Novel.)
One thing I noticed with the second HBO series was how the scope of the story was becoming a tad bit difficult to follow. And by that I mean the bajillion characters and story lines were starting to get muddied and confusing. I had no problem following along, of course, but I’d read the entire series so I knew who to expect and when to expect them. Also when to expect they would die/get mangled/have bad things happen to them.
I don’t think I’ve ever read someone who took the ‘kill your darlings’ admonishment to heart as literally as Mr. Martin.
Hmmm, I keep circling back to the four thousand-plus pages. Guess I’d better get started next week, at least, in case I get busy or something. Are you up for a re-read? Anyone want to join in the mayhem with me?
Winter’s Coming.

I haven’t read any of them yet! I may join you on the read if you’re serious about “company”. Let me know!
Given the number of pages, I should probably start soon. How about you? When can you start?
as soon as I can talk one of my kids out of a copy ; ) so, sometime this week
While you’re waiting for the snow, let’s start reading, okay?
