NBF Decision Making Skills MIA

There’s been a huge brou-ha-ha this week in the publishing world. The National Book Awards were announced last week by the National Book Foundation (or NBF). However, they made a mistake in the Young Person’s category and announced six nominees instead of the usual five.

Read about the gory details in a very well-informed blog post here: http://libba-bray.livejournal.com/62266.html

(Disclosure…I happen to have read a couple of Libba’s books. Which I adored. And I don’t know her at all, but am just a fangirl.)

Hang on… I have a better idea. Don’t just read Libba’s blog. Go buy Lauren Myracle’s book, SHINE. I’m buying two copies – one for my Nook and one in print. Go now.

A click on the cover should take you to Amazon, but you can purchase it any way you like. Have you done it yet? Hmm?

(Addition: Powell’s  http://www.powells.com/biblio/1-9780810984172-0    Yay, Oregon indie bookstores!)

This is a terrific book, a very-much wronged author, and a train-wreck of a situation made worse by bone-headed decisions. I ache for this writer, her agent, her publishers and her friends and family. That she was ASKED TO RECUSE HERSELF for someone else’s mistake….un-be-freaking-lievable.

You should be ashamed, NBF. Seriously ashamed.
