Mama’s Got A Brand New Bog

(Aside: I really do crack myself up. Honestly. You should have seen me chortling as I typed the title.)

My darling husband is a teacher, and usually takes on a couple of domestic projects over the summer to fill his time. His vacation tasks this year were to replace the windows in our bathrooms, and paint the house. He didn’t get to the last one, but he was a superstar with the first.

Both of our bathrooms have windows in the showers. And in the boys’ bathroom, the original was a wooden double-hung window. Seriously. I kid you not. We opted to go with glass-block windows to let in the maximum amount of light without showing all our naughty bits to the neighbors. And regardless of our excellent intentions, our 1959 house and its 1959 windows almost made 2012 Home Depot have multiple kittens. Nothing is the same size anymore.

After battling with re-sizing the window frames, shimming like a madman, and praying to the window gods to make things go smoothly, darling husband got the windows in. He re-tiled around each window, too. Which added a bit of color and pizzazz.

Who doesn’t like pizzazz?

This is the finished window in the boys’ bathroom. The tile is a multi-colored glass. Totally adorbs and just perfect. Darling husband really went above and beyond when he continued the glass tile all the way around the tub. It’s so pretty!

This is our window. He did a really nice job with it. So nice we decided to go whole hog and paint, too. Blue tape is so delightful, don’t you think?

Here he is in the middle of all the prep work yesterday. Doesn’t he look thrilled? Look at that emotion… he’s just so damn happy to be there, don’t you think?

Here’s the finished bathroom. Kind of like being in the world’s biggest appletini. The green paint (which I love) makes everything look green, including the while etagere.

Kind of amazing what a coat or two of paint can do, huh? Even to a cramped and tiny biffy last remodeled in the seventies.

I think it’s now my favorite room in the house.

  1. Jules– it looks FAB! Tell Jim I’d love for him to come and do my bathroom too!

  2. I LOVE THIS. You are a very funny woman Mrs. O. It made me laugh lots and….Jim, the bathroom looks amazing. x

    • Thanks, Kaz. The funniest part was the two of us in that tiny bathroom with the door closed, trying to coordinate painting. 🙂 So glad you like it!
